Timmins, Ont. — The Timmins Police Service is investigating two separate homicide cases after fatal shootings occurred less than a day apart in the city. The first incident took place shortly after midnight on July 31, 2026, in the Balsam Street North and Cedar Street North area. Officers responded to reports of gunfire and located an adult male with significant injuries. A firearm was seized at the scene.
The victim was transported to hospital in vital signs absent condition and later pronounced dead. Police have said the victim and suspect were known to each other and the incident was targeted. The suspect in that case has not been publicly identified as arrested.Just over 24 hours later, shortly after midnight on August 1, officers responded to reports of gunfire near Rea Street South and Wilson Avenue (initially reported in the Belanger Avenue area). They found three male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One was pronounced deceased, a second remains in hospital in serious condition with life-threatening injuries, and a third was treated for a gunshot wound and released.
Police have confirmed the two shootings are unrelated. They involve different individuals and circumstances. According to investigators, neither was a random act of violence. Both stemmed from conflicts between people who knew one another, involved illegal firearms, and have links to the local drug trade.Timmins Police Chief Sydney Lecky stated there is no immediate threat to the general public. Two individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the investigations, which remain in the early stages. Firearms have been recovered, though not all those involved have been arrested.
The criminal investigations division is leading both cases, and the scenes have been secured for processing.Anyone with information is asked to contact Timmins Police at 705-264-1201 or Crime Stoppers anonymously, referencing the relevant incident numbers. The back-to-back incidents have raised understandable concern in the community, but police emphasize they are isolated and targeted.
