Kenora, ON – August 5, 2026 – A 51-year-old man has died following a collision involving a tractor-trailer and a pedestrian on Highway 17A near Kenora.
Ontario Provincial Police say the incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. on Saturday, August 1. First responders, including OPP, fire and emergency medical services, attended the scene. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
Police have identified the victim as Garnet Michaud, 51, of Wabaseemoong Independent Nations (also known as Whitedog First Nation).
The OPP said the investigation is ongoing but does not anticipate any charges resulting from the collision. Highway 17A has since reopened.
Police continue to emphasize that traffic safety remains a top priority across the region.
