KYIV – September 15, 2026 – Russia attacked Ukraine overnight with nearly 200 Shahed-type and other drones, hitting seven locations and killing at least two people, Ukrainian officials said.
Air defences shot down or suppressed 187 of the incoming drones. Explosions were heard in Kyiv. Two petrol stations in the capital were damaged, and energy and port infrastructure was struck in other regions.
The attacks continued after U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to halt strikes on each other’s energy infrastructure. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine is ready to stop such strikes only with credible guarantees that Russia will do the same. Ukraine reported hitting a Russian oil refinery in Syzran and drone-production sites.
A Russian drone also struck a Kyiv–Warsaw passenger train near the Polish border on Sunday. NATO’s secretary-general said the attack would not deter Ukraine’s backers.
