OTTAWA – October 26, 2026 – Prime Minister Mark Carney is hosting a joint First Ministers’ meeting with First Nations leaders this morning. The session is scheduled for 8:45 a.m. Media coverage is pooled. A media availability is set for 3:30 p.m. This evening Carney will host a dinner in honour of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The visit is framed as strengthening Canada’s economic and security partnership with the United Arab Emirates. Separately, Carney has announced that he will host a Canada-European Union summit in Montréal to advance a new partnership.
The First Ministers’ meeting is the domestic item on today’s schedule. No agenda has been released beyond the joint format with First Nations leaders. The Abu Dhabi dinner is the international item. The UAE visit follows the recent Turkey trip and the launch of the Canada-Türkiye strategic partnership. The Montréal EU summit is the next announced international meeting. No date for the Montréal summit has been published beyond the announcement that it will be held. The three items—the First Nations meeting, the Abu Dhabi dinner, and the planned EU summit—are the current diplomatic and domestic record. The rest is whether the morning session produces a public statement and whether the evening dinner produces any commercial announcements.
