Summerland, B.C. – August 8, 2026 – The entire community of Summerland has been ordered to evacuate after a fast-moving wildfire grew dramatically overnight.
The Bald Range fire expanded to roughly 50 square kilometres within hours of being detected Friday evening, according to the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen. Officials described a significant risk to life as the blaze advanced.
Evacuation orders cover the full community. More than 100 wildfires are currently burning across British Columbia, with thousands of residents already displaced in other areas.
Conditions remain extreme across much of the province due to heat and dry vegetation.
