Thunder Bay / Kenora Region – August 10, 2026 – There are currently 112 active wildfires burning across northwestern Ontario, according to the latest update from Ontario’s Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services.
Twelve fires remain not under control, including the large Rinker Lake Complex west and northwest of Thunder Bay. Three new small fires were confirmed Sunday evening near Nipigon and Thunder Bay.
About 1,638 people remain under evacuation orders. Fourteen communities have been evacuated at various points this season, with six having returned home. Firefighting crews from Ontario and other provinces, along with international support, continue working the major complexes.
Officials say suppression efforts are ongoing as conditions allow.
