Summerland, B.C. – August 10, 2026 – An 80-year-old woman has died while trying to flee the fast-moving Bald Range wildfire near Summerland, British Columbia, RCMP confirmed.
The fire, which exploded in size over the weekend, has forced roughly 20,000 people from their homes and remains out of control. It has burned more than 13,000 hectares and triggered a province-wide state of emergency.
Thousands of residents from Summerland and surrounding areas are still under evacuation orders. Officials describe the blaze as one of the more challenging fires faced this season due to its rapid growth and difficult terrain.
Search and recovery efforts continue in the affected area.
