Thunder Bay / Kenora Region – August 14, 2026 – There are currently 110 active wildfires burning across northwestern Ontario, according to the latest update from Ontario’s Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services.
Eleven fires remain not under control. Five new fires were confirmed earlier this week between Thunder Bay and Kenora, including one near Highway 17 south of Moth Lake that is still listed as not under control.
Major complexes, including the Rinker Lake Complex and fires in the Atikokan area, continue to demand significant resources. Dry conditions across much of the region are complicating suppression efforts, though the overall fire hazard is mixed, with higher risk areas remaining around Thunder Bay, Kenora and Dryden.
Evacuation orders remain in effect in some affected communities. Fire crews from Ontario and partner agencies are continuing to work the larger fires as weather and resources allow.
