KYIV / MOSCOW – September 6, 2026 – U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Saturday before travelling to Kyiv, as Russia and Ukraine agreed to halt strikes on each other’s capitals for three days.
The pause covers Kyiv and Moscow through September 7 to allow the American delegation to travel. Putin rejected a broader front-line ceasefire proposed by Ukraine. Attacks continued elsewhere: Russian strikes over the past day killed at least eight people and injured 69 across Ukraine, including an 11-year-old boy in Kharkiv Oblast.
Russia launched 108 drones overnight. Ukrainian air defences intercepted most of them. No hits were reported in Kyiv city itself during the pause, though alerts sounded in the surrounding region.
The visit is the first by Witkoff and Kushner to Kyiv. No immediate details of the Moscow talks were released.
