KYIV – September 3, 2026 – Russian drones struck central Kyiv on Wednesday, wounding 11 people and damaging residential and university buildings on the seventh day of nearly round-the-clock attacks on the capital.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the attack on a downtown university happened while students were in class, forcing about 160 people to take shelter. Russia launched 174 attack drones and several missiles overnight, with about half of the drones described as jet-powered models that are harder to intercept.
Strikes also hit Odesa, knocking out power to more than 350,000 homes, and Dnipro, where two people were killed. Earlier attacks on Kyiv and its outskirts killed 12 people, including railway workers.
Ukraine has warned that it faces a shortage of interceptors needed to stop ballistic missiles as Russia appears to be preparing further strikes on energy infrastructure.
