THUNDER BAY – October 24, 2026 – A 38-year-old Thunder Bay man is facing more than 20 charges, including drug-trafficking and firearms offences, after police tried to stop a vehicle on Water Street on Friday morning. An officer saw the vehicle being driven erratically around 9:20 a.m. The driver did not stop. The officer did not pursue. Multiple 911 calls came in from the public about a vehicle matching the description. A short time later the vehicle was found after it had hit a tree in the Ravenwood Crescent area. Witnesses saw a male exit the vehicle and run. The service’s K9 unit located him. He was arrested around 9:45 a.m.
Police seized a handgun and suspected illegal substances. The charges include flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, impaired operation, failure to stop after an accident, operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, and unauthorized possession of a firearm. Additional drug and weapons counts are on the list. The full set has not been itemized in the initial release beyond the total of more than 20. The vehicle is the one that crashed. The handgun and the substances are the items that were seized after the arrest. No injuries to bystanders have been reported. The officer who first saw the vehicle did not engage in a pursuit. That decision is on the record. The rest of the file is the charges and the items that were recovered.
Water Street and Ravenwood Crescent are both inside the city. The sequence is the failed stop, the public calls, the crash, the flight on foot, the K9 arrest, and the seizure. The man is in custody. The next court date has not been published. The handgun and the substances are the physical evidence. The more-than-20 charges are the legal count. The decision not to pursue is the operational note. The rest is the outcome of the charges once they are before a court.
