THUNDER BAY – October 19, 2026 – Online voting for Thunder Bay’s municipal and school board election opens at 10 a.m. today and stays open until 8 p.m. on Monday, October 26. The service runs around the clock once it starts. Voters need the personal identification number from their voter information letter. The city says the letter is the key. People who have not received one can call 807-622-VOTE or email ThunderBayVotes@thunderbay.ca.
In-person options run on the same schedule. Advance polls are open today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Thunder Bay Conservatory on Dease Street West and on Wednesday, October 21, at the 55 Plus Centre on River Street. Election day is October 26. Accessible voting devices are available at the advance and election-day sites. The city has also listed in-person internet voting locations for people who want to cast a ballot online but prefer to do it at a staffed site.
The race for mayor has four candidates who filed: Kenneth Boshcoff, Clinton Harris, Robert Szczepanski, and Peng You. Gary Mack did not file by the March 31 deadline and is listed as in default. Councillor seats are contested in several wards, including Current River, McIntyre, McKellar, and Neebing. At-large seats are also on the ballot. The full list is on the city’s election page. The term of office begins November 15. Financial statements are due March 26, 2027.
Thunder Bay has used online voting in previous municipal cycles. The city says the system is the same one voters used before. The PIN on the letter is required. Once the system opens at 10 a.m., it stays available until the October 26 close. People who prefer paper can still vote in person on the listed days. The city has not released an advance-vote turnout figure because the polls have not closed. The online window is open for a full week. The rest is whether the PIN letters arrived and whether voters use them before the deadline.
The Conservatory on Dease Street West is the advance site for today. The 55 Plus Centre on River Street is the site for Wednesday. Both are familiar civic buildings. Voters who show up in person do not need the PIN if they are voting on paper. Voters who want to use a computer at a staffed location still need the letter. The city has not said how many letters were returned as undeliverable. That number usually surfaces after the election if it is large enough to matter. For now the system is open. The deadline is a week away. The mayor’s race and the ward races will be decided by whoever casts a ballot between this morning and 8 p.m. on the 26th.
