THUNDER BAY – November 6, 2026
An adult man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after an assault on Conestoga Street late Tuesday night, and the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Major Crime Unit is now assisting with the investigation.
Primary Response officers were dispatched to an address on the street shortly before midnight on November 3. Officers located the injured man at the scene. Paramedics transported him to hospital. Police released the information publicly on Thursday, two days after the call. No arrests or charges have been announced, and no further details about the circumstances have been provided.
The involvement of the Major Crime Unit indicates the file is being treated as a major investigation. In Thunder Bay the unit handles the city’s most serious violent cases, including homicides, suspicious deaths and assaults involving grave injuries or complex circumstances. Its presence means the Conestoga Street matter is not being closed as a routine patrol call, even though the public information released so far is limited to a short statement.
Police stated the incident is not believed to pose a direct risk to public safety. That language is typically used when investigators assess that the people involved are known to each other or that the circumstances are contained. It does not mean the case is solved. Officers have not said whether they are seeking a specific suspect, whether the parties knew each other, or what the current focus of the investigation is.
The two-day gap between the incident and the public release is relevant for anyone in the area who may have information. Officers were on the street shortly before midnight Tuesday. Anyone who was awake in the neighbourhood late that night—who saw or heard activity, noticed a vehicle, or has doorbell or dash-camera footage from that period—may hold information investigators want. In cases of this type, the hours around the call are often reconstructed from precisely those fragments.
Anyone with information that could assist is asked to contact the Thunder Bay Police Service at 807-684-1200 and reference incident number TB26044379. The incident number routes the information to the correct file. Further updates will be issued when available. As of Friday morning none had been released. The next public information is likely to come in the form of an arrest, a request for a specific person or vehicle, or an update on the man’s condition.
