KYIV – August 30, 2026 – A Russian strike on a weapons warehouse west of Kyiv killed at least 37 people, making it one of the deadliest single attacks in Ukraine this year.
Ukrainian officials said the Friday night attack hit a warehouse in Myla that was storing shells, mines and other ammunition. The strike triggered secondary explosions and fires that spread to nearby homes, including a care facility for elderly and disabled people.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said storing explosives in a residential area was illegal and that a criminal investigation had been launched. Russia’s Defence Ministry said it targeted a warehouse holding drone components.
The attack came during a prolonged wave of Russian drone and missile strikes that lasted more than a day and kept air-raid alerts active across large parts of the country. Ukrainian air defences reported shooting down or suppressing more than 200 drones overnight.
