KYIV – October 14, 2026 – Russia launched 39 ballistic missiles and more than 120 drones at Ukraine overnight into Wednesday, three days after President Donald Trump said an energy ceasefire was in effect. At least three people were killed and 22 injured in Kyiv. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a residential building in the Desnianskyi district was hit, along with power plants elsewhere in the city. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at least 600,000 people were without power and that 26 power facilities and four oil and gas sites were damaged.
Zelenskyy called the scale deliberate. “The strike was entirely deliberate and demonstrative in its scale,” he said. He described it as “ostentatious disrespect toward the United States” and said Russia “does not consider the American President’s statements strong.” He added that Trump “has all the effective and necessary tools to bring peace closer through strength, justice, and pressure on the aggressor.” Ukraine has said it stopped attacks on Russian refineries after Trump’s October 11 announcement. Moscow has not confirmed the ceasefire. On October 13, when a reporter asked Trump about the earlier strikes, he declined to blame the Kremlin for breaking the truce.
The Air Force numbers, reported by Ukrainian outlets, put the launch at 39 missiles of mixed types — Iskander-M, KN-23, S-400, Zircon, and Oniks — fired from Kursk, Bryansk, Voronezh, and Rostov regions, plus 128 attack drones, 77 of them jet-powered. Defences shot down or suppressed 119 targets, including four ballistic missiles and 115 drones. Hits still landed on energy sites in Kyiv, Kyiv Oblast, and Kharkiv. One person was reported killed in a separate accounting of the capital’s power strikes, with electric transport stopped in two districts. The figures differ by source and by the hour they were counted. The pattern does not: energy infrastructure is still being hit after the announcement that it would not be.
Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke with Zelenskyy on October 13. He offered condolences for the latest civilian and energy casualties and said Russia needs to stop the strikes and respect the ceasefire. The leaders agreed to stay in contact. The missiles arrived the same night. Zelenskyy is due in London today to meet Prime Minister Andy Burnham. The overnight count is the message he is carrying.
