KYIV – October 13, 2026 – Russian ballistic missiles and drones hit Ukraine overnight into Tuesday, a day after President Donald Trump said an energy ceasefire was in effect. Two women, aged 39 and 59, were killed in Kyiv. Nine others were wounded, including a minor. National Police confirmed the deaths.
The Air Force said the attack began at 6 p.m. Monday: five Iskander-M or S-400 ballistic missiles launched from Bryansk region, nine loitering munitions, and 108 attack drones, 74 of them jet-powered. By 8 a.m. Tuesday, 88 drones had been shot down or suppressed. Hits were recorded at 17 locations. In Kyiv, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said missiles struck a transport site in Dniprovskyi district and a warehouse in Desnianskyi. A drone also hit a residential complex. In Kharkiv, an entrance section of a four-story apartment building was destroyed. Three people were pulled from the rubble. State Emergency Service figures for Kharkiv put the toll higher: three dead and 15 wounded.
The warning system failed in the usual way. Ukraine’s Air Force said it had no advance data on the launches. Radar detected the missiles only as they arrived. The sirens came late. Zelenskyy said Russia continues the strikes “even now, in response to the American proposal,” and that Ukraine had stopped hitting Russian refineries overnight. Moscow has still not confirmed the ceasefire. The missiles arrived anyway.
